Upcoming Classes
Saturday February 4th, 1-2:30 PM
@ Equilibrium Dance Academy (1802 S. Broad Street)
Katherine Desimine

I strive to facilitate ease, sustainability and joy within effort and awareness. We will begin class focusing on breathe, imagery and weight. We will warm up slowly using circular and sequential movement, in improvisation and set exercises. During class I will encourage focusing on & moving from sensation, texture, and weight. By the end of class, we will be moving big and taking chances (maybe even falling!)-- all while keeping a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
I recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, as we will work a lot on the floor.
$0-$20, pay what you can.

This class will open with an improvisation-based warm-up. We will then move into choreography which will focus predominantly on floorwork and musicality. We will discuss translating discoveries made through improvisation into personal interpretations of the choreography. This is all about finding our authentic voices as movers!
Sliding scale $5-20.

In this movement session, we will experience circles, breath, pushing boundaries, athleticism, and discovering new things about our bodies and their intuition. Expect improvisation, breathing, somatics, floorwork, and breadth of dynamic movement as this class flows with joy.

Diaphragms: horizontality into spirals
The diaphragms are horizontal structures in the body that carry our contents and enable subtle, internal movements, unlike the longitudinal muscles that boldly carry our limbs and trunk through space. When we initiate big body movement with the internal diaphragms we can find more three-dimensionality, delicacy, and ease in and out of the floor.

Class will be based in contemporary jazz with the intention of finding joy in movement while exploring musicality, dynamics, and rhythms. I encourage movers to find & use their authentic movement voice within improvisation and phrase work.
